House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden shouldn’t debate President Trump.
Biden said later that he will debate Trump.
“I don’t think there should be any debates. IÂ do not think the president of the United States has comported himself in a way that anybody has any association with truth, evidence, data and facts. I wouldn’t legitimize a conversation with him nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States,” Pelosi said.
“I know the Biden campaign thinks in a different way about this. But I just thought what [Trump] he did in 2016 was disgraceful, stalking Hillary Clinton like that. I was disappointed the press didn’t say, ‘Go back to your station. You don’t own this stage. You have your own podium. She has hers,’ ” she also said.
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy responded to Pelosi advising Biden not to debate Trump.
“President Trump’s passion, energy, and debate skills are unmatched. It’s no surprise that Pelosi wants to keep Biden in the basement,” he wrote on Twitter.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich weighed in on Pelosi’s advice as well.
“The Pelosi suggestion Biden should not debate President Trump is the beginning of Operation Basement Part Two. If only they can keep Biden hidden long enough he might win,” he wrote on Twitter.

The only thing that should be canceled is Pelosi.
Pelosi’s stupid advice will anger leftists just as much as it will rightists. Many leftists rightly view Pelosi as a closet conservative who merely pretends to be progressive in order that she may manipulate liberals and leftists the way Truman did in 1948 when he wanted to destroy Henry Wallace’s independent leftist Progressive Party!
And when debates happen, if I were Trump, I would insist that each candidate could bring their own questioner. Have a moderator and two interviewers or four. So Trump would have his questioner or questioners for Biden and Biden, his for Trump. Otherwise, most of the supposed “journalists” who moderate or pose questions in these presidential debates are usually leftists. Equalize it with tough questions for both candidates.
She must be getting senile also to let that one slip. Maybe we can arrange for Nancy & Joe to have adjoining rooms in the same nursing home.
